Baxenden develops new nonionic and cationic products to extend the range of Witcobond® PUDs.

In the continuing quest to reduce harmful VOCs, Baxenden has become a major supplier of polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) used for waterborne coatings, adhesives and finishes. These PUDs are made with a range of solid contents and surfactant-free and/or co solvent free versions are also available. They are mainly anionic in nature for formulating at higher pH, typically 7-10. Recent developments, however, include several new nonionic and cationic Witcobond® grades, supplied at pH 4-7. These products are initially intended for "soft-to-medium" applications such as textile and leather finishing, paper coating, dipping etc. Their low pH tolerance allows them to be formulated with certain acidic components and auxiliaries such as quaternised water-repellants and softeners, often used by these industries. New applications for these products are being continually sought, their chemistry further optimised and customer enquiries are most welcome.

Baxenden continues to support the coating industries need to reduce VOCs.

In response to the industries switch towards aqueous solvents Baxenden has continued to develop its Trixene® range of water based blocked isocyanates. Motivated by cost, environmental concerns and more stringent regulations to reduce VOC emissions, the coatings industry is seeing an increased interest in water based blocked isocyanates. Baxenden has the technology to overcome the difficulties of dispersing blocked isocyanates, which are typically very hydrophobic, in water and can offer a range of products with different charge, lower unblocking temperature, different properties and that are NMP free. Baxenden is well placed to meet the requirements of coatings customers and tailor made products can be produced for specific applications.

What's new in the world of Low Monomer !

Baxenden has expanded its range of Trixene® low Free Monomer prepolymers to follow the trends towards high NCO, low Free Monomer content.

In Line with R40 legislation changes in 2010/2011 which require products to have <1% and in some cases <0.1% free Isocyanate Monomer Baxenden has expanded its well established Trixene® range of aromatic and aliphatic prepolymers. With a view to satisfy the needs within the Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and Foam markets. Particular emphasis has been given to overcoming some of the issues with low Monomer technology with respect to lower reactivity and reducing viscosities. Due to its unique position in the market Baxenden is able to offer tailored solutions to fit specific needs within given markets, the construction market having shown great interest in this area Baxenden continues to develop its expanding range of products.
